Police are searching for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man early yesterday outside a Chelsea nightclub, police officials said.

Brione Schneider, 32, was shot in the back after he and his brother and cousin were escorted out of Stereo, a nightclub at 29th Street and Tenth Avenue frequented by celebrities and socialites. The three men had gotten into a scuffle on the dance floor, police sources said.

Schneider and his companions, whom police did not identify, had left the club and were walking west when the shooting occurred, at about 3:45 a.m.

Police set up two crime scenes on 29th Street after the shooting, one in front of an art gallery at 528 29th St., where Schneider was likely shot, and the second near Eleventh Avenue, where he collapsed.

Schneider was rushed by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead an hour later, police said.

Stereo is one of four nightclubs in Chelsea that the police department sought to shut down after the 2006 murder of Jennifer Moore, 18, who was killed after leaving a Chelsea club. In 2007, police twice shuttered Stereo for short stints, citing several violations.

Stereo’s lawyer, Bruce Bronster, did not respond to phone messages seeking comment.
