A Queens middle school teacher at Intermediate School 59, Lalsingh Narainsingh, is being charged with sexually abusing one of his students.
“The charges are very disturbing,” the Queens district attorney, Richard Brown, said yesterday in a statement. “A classroom should always be a safe place for a child.”
According to the district attorney, Mr. Narainsingh allegedly molested a 14-year old male student in 2004 after asking him to help clean up an empty classroom after school. Police investigated the teacher after the alleged victim described the incident to his mother.
Mr. Narainsingh, facing charges of a second-degree criminal sexual act, third-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, could serve up to seven years in prison if convicted.
