Former punter Reggie Roby, a 16-year NFL veteran and three-time Pro Bowl selection, died Tuesday at his Nashville, Tenn., home. He was 43, and the cause of death was uncertain.
Roby played for the Miami Dolphins from 1983-92. He also played for the Redskins, Buccaneers, Oilers, and 49ers. He retired in 1999.
Roby could kick a ball high enough to bounce off the roof of domed stadiums, and he wore a watch during games to help time his punts. He led the AFC in 1991 with an average punt of 45.7 yards.
Roby, who had six children, was the marketing and development director for Backfield in Motion, a nonprofit group whose programs include mixing athletics and academics to help boys in the inner city.
