Stores Selling Milk Above New York State Limits

WHITE PLAINS — Westchester County says it’s been finding a lot of stores selling milk at prices above New York limits.
The county consumer director, Gary Brown, says the highest prices were at a gas station, where a half-gallon was $4 and a gallon was $5.49. The state’s guideline is $2.24 for a half-gallon and $4.37 for a gallon in the metropolitan area, but vendors can go higher if they demonstrate higher costs.
The manager of the Sunoco store, Silvio Aloia, said yesterday he pays $2.27 a half-gallon and $4.33 a gallon and would lose money at the state limit.
Of 65 stores checked this month, 49 sold milk at prices above the threshold.
