More than 80% of city health facilities that offer prenatal care present barriers to seeing a doctor, according to a report released yesterday by Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum.
The report, based on phone calls by Ms. Gotbaum’s staff to 39 Health and Hospitals Corporation clinics, concluded that the most frequent barrier was a requirement that women visit the clinics for pregnancy tests. According to the report, the average wait time for an appointment was 12.8 days. Staff at more than half of the clinics reached did not provide information for uninsured women.
