‘Celebrating Wrong Day’
John Stossel poses a false dichotomy in “Celebrating Wrong Day” [Oped, April 26, 2007].
As Mayor Bloomberg’s PlaNYC makes clear, economic development and environmental protection are inextricably linked.
The plan’s goal is to make every neighborhood in New York City a great place to live and work, as well as to make a significant contribution to fighting climate change.
The city’s challenges with traffic and congestion, pollution, and energy — not to mention the housing squeeze — will only worsen as the city grows and its infrastructure ages.
The coalition of civic, business, environmental, labor, religious, public health, and community organizations that support PlaNYC recognize that an economically vital city is also an environmentally sustainable city.
