The Summer in the City Benefit for Partnerships for Parks celebrated its 10th anniversary at the Pergola on Tuesday night, a precursor to the SummerStage benefit concert featuring rock icon Elvis Costello and legendary country singer Emmylou Harris.

The lush, overhanging leaves provided at least the illusion of refuge from the oppressive heat, although the truest salvation came in the form of the cold beer and special “park punches” being served at the bar, as well as little cups of ice cream.

The heat didn’t seem to faze a suit-clad Mr. Costello, who rocked through a lively set with the Imposters after the party. Ms. Harris soon joined him onstage and the two crooned together for the remainder of the show.
