YANKEES’ MEETING ON TORRE TO START TOMORROW
Yankees officials will convene at their complex in Tampa, Fla., starting Tuesday morning to debate the future of Joe Torre. Torre has led New York to the playoffs in all 12 of his seasons, but owner George Steinbrenner told The Record on Oct. 6 that he didn’ t think he’d bring back the manager if the Yankees failed to advance to the AL championship series. Cleveland then eliminated New York in four games. Steinbrenner will hear advice from sons Hal and Hank; son-in-law Felix Lopez; team president Randy Levine; chief operating officer Lonn Trost; and general manager Brian Cashman. Levine said yesterday that the final decision remains with the 77-year-old owner. Hank and Hal have had a larger voice in the team’ s operations in the last year.

GONZALEZ BREAKS TIGHT END TOUCHDOWN MARK
Kansas City’s sickly offense found an easy way to get well — just stay home and let one of the league’s weakest defenses find you.
Tony Gonzalez set the NFL record for touchdown catches by a tight end and the Chiefs rolled up an impressive — for them — 354 total yards yesterday en route to a 27–20 victory over the downward-spiraling Cincinnati Bengals.
Gonzalez, the eight-time Pro Bowler, caught Damon Huard’s 3-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and broke Shannon Sharpe’ s NFL record of 62 touchdown catches for tight ends. Then Gonzalez snared a 26-yard scoring pass from Huard in the fourth period and wound up with 102 yards receiving.
