* MATCHES OF THE DAY: Jennifer Capriati and Serena Williams square off in a quarterfinal match tonight. Williams has won 10 of their 16 meetings, including a 6-1, 6-1 win at Wimbledon this year. She hasn’t looked great thus far, but she’s playing better than Capriati and should be considered the favorite. After they’re through, Andy Roddick battles Spain’s Tommy Robredo. Roddick undefeated against the Spaniard in six matches. Expect him to extend the streak to seven.
* AUSSIE DAY: Lleyton Hewitt looks for a quarterfinal birth as he takes on Slovakia’s Karol Beck. Hewitt has yet to drop a set in the tournament as he heads toward a semifinal against Roddick. If he wins today, he’ll face either Tommy Haas or Tomas Berdych, who play the last day match in Arthur Ashe.
* IN THE HUNT: France’s Amelie Mauresmo, below, continues the quest for her first Grand Slam tournament against Russia’s Elena Dementieva.
* MARTINA: Martina Navratilova graces the Grandstand again with doubles partner Lisa Raymond.
* SERVE’S UP: Hard serving Joachim Johansson of Sweden tries to ace his way to the quarterfinals. The Swede, seeded 28, leads the tournament with 66 aces. He’ll face France’s Michael Llorda, who is not seeded.
* JUNIOR CHAMPS: Top seeded boys junior Gael Monfils of France plays the Grandstand. Second-seeded girl Shahar Peer of Israel opens up the day.
