Handbags of all shapes and sizes complemented the runway looks in Paris — and, in many cases, warranted attention in their own right. While the sizes, shapes, and materials of accessories varied widely, the common elements were animal prints, bright candy colors, and caramel accents.
Standout sacs included Louis Vuitton’s spearmint, carnation, and saffron-colored handbag with the iconic LV insignia appearing in a lemony yellow. The luxury goods house partnered with the artist Richard Prince to create a new collection that is loaded with colors.
At Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld created an update on the classic, black quilted purse, this one adorned with a circular, nautical-style window, behind which appear to be enamel buttons with variations on the label’s logo. But the most fun new additions were the quilted coin purses strapped onto the models’ ankles.
Meanwhile, classically styled, well-proportioned bags in textured leather and animal prints were on display at Christian Dior in the form of baguettes.
Barbara Bui, whose show featured elegant clutches and large envelopes with gold chains, went in for contrasting combinations of animal prints and dark leathers. And at Celine, primary colors and neon shades of patent leather were used for clutches and large bags.
A white and coral clutch, with beige and pink accents, attached to an oversize wristband was a highlight at Chloé. The timeless Birkin bag, shown in citrus shades and crocodile textures, was paired with some of the silky, India-inspired looks at Hermès.
