The publisher Penguin Group USA Inc. has reached a settlement with author Douglas Brinkley. It had accused him of failing to promptly deliver a biography on a “Beat Generation” writer, Jack Kerouac.

Penguin Group USA Inc. had sued Mr. Brinkley, a well-known biographer and a history teacher at Houston’s Rice University, in an effort to get back the $200,000 advance it gave him.

The settlement was announced today by the lawyer for Mr. Brinkley and the Kerouac estate, who said the $200,000 will be returned and the book will be published elsewhere.
