New York Is no. 2 for Million-Dollar Homes

New York ranks second in the nation for million-dollar homes, according to a new analysis of data released by the U.S. Census Bureau. New York State had 82,637 homes worth $1 million or more in 2003, the most recent data available, up from 72,612 in 2002. California ranks first with 281,455 million dollar homes in 2003, an increase of 61,679 from 2002. Florida, Massachusetts, and New Jersey round out the top five states in the country with the most million-dollar homes.
New York County ranks fifth for the median value of $449,507 for owner-occupied housing units in 2003. California dominated the top four spots, with San Mateo County at the top of the list with a median home price of $644,331, followed by San Francisco County at $607,065, Santa Clara County at $553,474, and Santa Cruz County with a median home value of $553,021.
