Rupert Murdoch said yesterday he would again be the publisher of the New York Post, after the resignation of his son Lachlan earlier this week, the New York Times reported on its Web site last night.
Mr. Murdoch was publisher of the tabloid for 10 years. His return signals News Corporation’s commitment to the Post, which is engaged in a circulation war with its rival, the New York Daily News. As publisher, the 74-year-old Mr. Murdoch will compete with Mortimer Zuckerman, publisher of the Daily News.
Mr. Murdoch’s son Lachlan resigned his position as chief operating officer of News Corporation, a job that included duties overseeing the Post, TV stations, book publishing, and other newspapers. It is unclear whether the elder Mr. Murdoch would take on other duties his son left.
