FAST TIMES Cheryl Kelley’s paintings of American muscle cars are on display at Lyons Wier Gallery. As a child, Ms. Kelley loved the large-engine automobiles but was told that they weren’t for girls. In painting these Hornets, Camaros, Stingrays, and Chevelles, she emphasizes the feminine curves of their design. But the paintings also celebrate the cars’ basic power, their associations with teenage boy culture, and the “sound of the big 8-cylinder engine.” Through Thursday, June 30, Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Lyons Wier Gallery, 511 W. 25 St., between Tenth and Eleventh avenues, no. 205, 212-242-6220, free.
WALKING ON AIR The new public art project “Time Translations” goes on view today.Artist Nell Breyer has placed cameras along the World Financial Center’s southern pedestrian bridge that will videotape the movements of passers-by. The live footage will be processed by computers and projected as drawings on the side of the bridge. “Think of it as a representation of a ‘moving average’ of people over the bridge,” Ms. Breyer has said. “‘Time Translations’ represents time and space just as the Dow Jones Moving Average represents the stock market today and historically at the same time.” Today through September 30, daily, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., World Financial Center pedestrian bridge at Liberty Street, 212-945-0505, free.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN Four large-scale photographs by Mark Mann depict a day in the life of a family vacation in what looks to be mid-century America. “Four Easy Pieces” captures a roadside diner, a motel pool and bedroom, and children playing a version of cowboys and Indians in an amusement park. Through Thursday, June 30, Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Laurence Miller Gallery, 20 W. 57th St., between Fifth and Sixth avenues, 212-397-3930, free.
