Edwina White drew inspiration for her show “Across and Down,” on view at Gigantic ArtSpace, from the January 1, 2005, New York Times crossword puzzle. Using 57 clues from that grid, she combined text, drawings, found objects, and even sound and animation to create a series of whimsical artworks. Born in Australia, Ms. White is now based in Brooklyn (through Saturday, June 25, Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Gigantic ArtSpace, 59 Franklin St., between Broadway and Lafayette Street, 212-226-6762, free). The gallery stays open late tonight as part of the Second Wednesdays art event, in which TriBeCa galleries keep their doors open until 8 p.m. At Franklin 54 Gallery, TriBeCa artist Liz Whitney Quisgard discusses her new exhibit of fiber wall hangings (54-57 Franklin St., between Lafayette and Cortlandt streets, 212-732-0009). Second Wednesdays: Tonight, 6-8 p.m., various locations, free. Please go to www.cherylpelavin.com/TGAfull.html for a map and full list of galleries.
