BIG BANGS London artist Sarah Pickering’s large-scale photographs are on display in “Explosions.”The series captures controlled, simulated explosions using pyrotechnics for British law enforcement training. The explosions were meant to re-create the look of explosions caused by napalm, firebombs, land mines, and other deadly materials. A previous series focused on the falsefront “towns” used as disaster simulation training centers. WATERCOLOR CITY Frederick Brosen’s exhibit “Still New York” features 18 watercolor paintings depicting scenes including the city’s most celebrated skyscrapers and its forgotten industrial corners. OLD PAPER, NEW INK New drawings by Chuck Webster are on display at Zieher-Smith. The artist uses torn selections from his large collection of antique paper, creating biomorphic forms with colored pencil, ink, and watercolor. The show coincides with “The Painted World,” a group show at P.S.1 Contemporary in which Mr. Webster’s work is also on display through January 30. INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH Arthur Aubry’s photographs of barren industrial landscapes in the Pacific Northwest are on display at Gitterman Gallery. He captures the geometry in metal spirals of cast-off bedding, giant stacks of shipping pallets, and grimy machines of all kinds.
