ELEMENTARY ART The new Williamsburg gallery Art 101 opens with an exhibit featuring 12 New York artists. “Friends” includes work selected by the gallery’s owner, Ellen Rand, who is herself a painter. “The idea is to be friendly and the art be totally accessible,” Ms. Rand said. “At first I thought I’d show myself and then I thought, no, I’ll show all the artists I know who don’t have galleries.” Participating artists in the first exhibit include Jennifer Baker, Don Perdue, and Robin Tost. Ms. Rand said she is especially looking forward to the November show, which will feature the work of artists Vivian and John Koos and their daughter Katherine. Friday through Sunday, September 26, Friday-Sunday, 1-6 p.m., and by appointment, Art 101, 101 Grand St., between Berry Street and Wythe Avenue, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 718-782-2541, free.
