CONCERT IN THE PARK Pack your blanket and corkscrew, because tonight offers a double dose of an annual summertime treat, as both the New York Philharmonic and the Brooklyn Philharmonic offer free concerts in Central Park. Which to choose? Well, the careful planner can get a taste of both. While the New York Philharmonic sets up shop to perform on the Great Lawn at 8 p.m., the Brooklyn Philharmonic will already be half an hour into its concert at the Naumburg Bandshell.
Your best bet? Stay for an hour of the Brooklyn Phil’s performance of Stravinsky’s “Dumbarton Oaks,” Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, featuring violinist Tim Fain, and Beetho-ven’s Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major. Then, head to the Great Lawn and catch the tail end of the New York Philharmonic’s mixed bill, including a fireworks show set to the music of John Philip Sousa.
