GO GUARACHA
Trini and Nersa Marquez are two-thirds of the Marquez Sisters, an ensemble that was at the center of Cuba’s lively guaracha music scene during the 1940s.The two perform in a rare concert this week that also features a lecture about guaracha. Trini plays guitar and Nersa plays maracas, with Lourdes Lopez joining in on vocals. VOX POPULI
The Marguerite Juenemann Trio performs in “Gnu Vox,” a series of voice concerts. The performance marks the 10-year reunion of Ms. Juenemann with guitarist Ben Monder and bassist Ben Street. WHITMAN IN BROOKLYN
The Brooklyn Philharmonic, which Walt Whitman reviewed during the 19th century, performs “Brooklyn’s Ode to Joy.” The piece is a juxtaposition of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” with Jennifer Higdon’s song cycle based on Whitman’s poem “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d.” Saturday, 8 p.m., Brooklyn Academy of Music, Howard Gilman Opera House, 30 Lafayette St., between Ashland Place and St. Felix Street, Brooklyn, 718-636-4100, $20-$60.
