BACK STORY Photographs by Berlinbased photographer Tim Lehmacher are on display in “Pli.” To make the works on display, Mr. Lehmacher photographed European statues from behind, then digitally erased all the background material. The exhibit title is taken from the French word for “fold,” a reference to the heavy, intricate folds of the sculpted garments. Through Friday, December 23, Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Daniel Cooney Fine Art, 511 W. 25th St., between Tenth and Eleventh avenues, no. 506, 212-255-8158, free.
BIG MOUNTAIN Nine large-scale photographs by Clifford Ross are on display in “Mountain Series.” Inspired by the largescale paintings of Frederic Church and other Hudson River School artists, Mr. Ross uses high-resolution digital photography to capture small details – including blades of grass – even in the largest images. The photographs on display feature Mount Sopris in Carbondale, Colo., in a variety of seasons and from several angles. Through Wednesday, December 21, Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Sonnabend Gallery, 536 W. 22nd St., between Tenth and Eleventh avenues, 212-627-1018, free.
