IMMIGRANT POPULATION The New School presents “Learn English … If You Can,” a panel discussion about the prevalence of English as a Second Language classes for immigrants in New York. Panelists include the director of adult education for the mayor’s office, Anthony Tassi, the executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition, Chung-Wha Hong, and an activist for the Coalition for Adult Literacy, Steve Hinds. PISCASSO’S MARK The Whitney Museum of Art presents “Conversations on Art: Lessons of the Master,” a talk on the decades-long influence of painter Pablo Picasso. Featured panelists include a curator for the Frick Collection, Susan Grace Galassi, and the author of “Picasso and the Invention of Cubism” (Yale), Pepe Karmel. ART IN THE OFFICE The Arts & Business Council of New York presents a National Arts Forum talk, “Corporate Culture: Improving Workforce Development Through the Arts,” which explores ways in which companies use the arts to cultivate, advance, and retain staff talent. DON’T KILL POLAR BEARS Barnard College presents “Pollution and the Polar Bear: Distribution and Effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants in the Arctic,” a talk on how pollutants are affecting the polar bear population. The deputy director of the Norwegian Veterinary Insitute, Janneche Utne Skaare, is a featured speaker.
