BOO, HISS The Bad Plays Festival, which celebrates terrible theater, kicks off with performances of “Blood Astounds Me” and “Expletives Deleted,” among other gems. Each of its three programs includes several short plays, and afterward the audience votes on the best of the worst. Opening reception: Tonight, 6 p.m. Awards: Sunday, August 28.Series: Tonight through Saturday, August 27, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 8 p.m., Downeast Arts Center, 203 Ave. A, between 12th and 13th streets, 212-228-2886, $10 each evening, $25 all three programs.


ADOLESCENCE The Youth Theater Project, a professional theater company for high school students, presents “Ah! Wilderness,” Eugene O’Neill’s comedy set in the summer of 1906 about a teenager’s efforts to woo his sweetheart. Isaiah Cazares directs. Tonight through Friday, 7 p.m., Saturday, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., 59E59 Theaters, Theater B, 59 E. 59th St., between Park and Madison avenues, 212-753-5959, $5.


A MOVING PLAY The New York Classical Theatre rounds out its summer season with “Scapin.” The Moliere comedy, set in Italy, follows a scheming servant who tricks two fathers out of money reserved for their respective sons. In this production, the actors (with the audience in tow) move physically from scene to scene, crossing Central Park between 103rd Street and the lake, using trees, rocks, and benches as scenery. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Through Sunday, August 28, Thursday-Sunday, 7 p.m., Central Park, 103rd Street and Central Park West, 212-252-4531, no reservations required, free.


HOME SWEET HOME The annual American Living Room Festival, a forum for theater, music, and dance works, takes as its theme this year the “carousel of American progress.” This week’s highlight is “In the Belly of the Beast With Two Backs,” an adaptation of “Othello” that incorporates mambo, erotica, and hymns, directed by Lisa Jackson (Friday and Saturday).
