LONDON — Sir Paul McCartney’s trademark two-finger salute is normally thought of as a symbol of peace.

Yesterday, however, as he emerged smiling from the second round of his bitter divorce battle with his estranged wife, it was interpreted as a sign of victory.

Neither Mr. McCartney, 64, nor Mrs. McCartney, 39, had anything to say as they left the High Court separately, but their body language did nothing to dispel speculation that the former Beatle had won important points in the fight over his $1.6 billion fortune.

Mr. McCartney, dressed in a dark-grey suit and wearing black trainers, whistled and clicked his fingers as he strolled down several flights of stairs with his lawyer, Fiona Shackleton.
