* Campaigning in the battleground states of Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, President Bush struck back yesterday at Democrats who blamed the administration for the disappearance in Iraq of hundreds of tons of explosives. He accused Senator Kerry of making wild charges and of demeaning American troops in the field. The president also appealed to “discerning Democrats” looking for a candidate who is strong on national security.
* Mr. Kerry, campaigning in Iowa and Minnesota, said that when it comes to Iraq, the man in the White House “doesn’t get it, and he can’t fix it.” Mr. Kerry accused the president of “dodging and bobbing and weaving” to evade responsibility for the disappearance of the explosives in Iraq.
WHERE THEY ARE TODAY
* Mr. Bush will campaign at Saginaw, Mich., today and then head to Ohio, where he’ll appear in Dayton and Westlake. He will make his way to a third swing state with an event in Bucks County, Pa.
* Like the president, Mr. Kerry will also be in Ohio today. He will visit Toledo and Columbus. He also plans to be in Madison, Wis., and will spend the night in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
POLLS
* An ABC News tracking poll suggested yesterday that early and absentee voters are breaking the president’s way by 51% to 47%.
