The City Council is launching an investigation to determine whether a newly elected council member from Brooklyn, Mathieu Eugene, is eligible to hold office after allegations were made that he did not live in the district he was elected to represent on Election Day.

Speaker Christine Quinn said in a statement yesterday that Dr. Eugene and his family members, landlord, and neighbors will be interviewed as part of the investigation. Once it is concluded and the election results are certified Dr. Eugene and former Assemblyman Vincent Ignizio, elected to represent southern Staten Island, will be sworn in, Ms. Quinn said.
