A group of disabled subway riders is calling on the New York City Transit Authority to create more platform space for wheelchairs in three of the city’s “handicapped accessible” subway stations.
Wheelchair-bound passengers sometimes become stranded because the platforms are too narrow to access the elevators, the executive director of the Disabled Riders Coalition, Michael Harris, said yesterday.
In a statement, the NYCTA said accessibility is a “major priority” and that $350 million is budgeted for future projects.
