A suspect wanted in the shooting of another man was fatally shot by police after a car chase yesterday.
Police confronted the 46-year-old man at about 4 p.m. outside a building in the Jamaica section of Queens, but he jumped into an Oldsmobile sedan and fled the scene with a gun, Sergeant Mike Wysokowski said. The car struck two police vehicles, causing property damage but no injuries.
After a short chase, the suspect’s car collided with a minivan.
Police said they exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who had emerged from the car with a gun.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Four police officers were taken to a hospital for treatment of trauma and medical evaluation.
The suspect was wanted for shooting another 40-year-old man in the head earlier in the day during a dispute, police said. That victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
