The philanthropist and art collector Iris Cantor has endowed a senior research chair in the field of digestive cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, hospital officials announced yesterday.

The chair was established with a $2.5 million donation from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation, which Mrs. Cantor chairs.

The Iris Cantor Chair will be endowed in honor of the cancer center’s former chief of gastroenterology and nutrition, Sidney Winawer, who is credited with developing national guidelines for screening colorectal cancer.
