A Brooklyn middle school teacher was arrested yesterday for allegedly hitting a 12-year-old girl in the face and giving her a bloody nose, police said.

The teacher, Gale Dragone, 52, allegedly struck a student at the Halsey school in Bushwick during an altercation between the student and the teacher, police said. Police said the student was in stable condition after being taken to Woodhull Hospital with a bloody nose.

Ms. Dragone was charged with assault in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child. She could not be reached for comment, but she reportedly told union representatives that she struck the student accidentally with a book after asking her to sit down.
