Two N.Y. Beaches Rated Among Best

GARDEN CITY — Two Long Island beaches have been rated among the nation’s best by a Florida International University professor, Stephen Leatherman. Mr. Leatherman, who calls himself “Dr. Beach, has listed Coopers Beach in Southampton, and Main Beach in East Hampton among the nation’s best.
“Dr. Beach” picked Caladesi Island in Florida as the best beach in the 2008 ranking. He compiles his list as part of the National Healthy Beaches Campaign.
