Ed Benedict, a legendary animator who is credited with much of the design of “The Flintstones” died August 28 in Auburn, Calif. He was 94.

After working at MGM, Benedict joined Hanna-Barbera in the late 1950s, and was the main designer of Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw. Later, he designed Fred and Wilma Flintstone and their neighbors, the Rubbles. He was also responsible for the inventive array of mineral-based appliances the show featured.
