‘Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.’

We very much appreciated the kind editorial the Sun ran about my father, Arthur Schlesinger Jr., in the Weekend Edition [Editorial, “Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr.,” March 2-4, 2007].

We were also amazed to see the picture on the same page, accompanying Edward Glaeser’s oped on income inequality [Oped, “Inequality Rules,” March 2-4, 2007].

The woman featured in the photograph accompanying Mr. Glaeser’s piece is the painter Lily Cushing Emmet, my mother’s mother — my father’s mother-in-law.

It was a happy coincidence that brought a smile when it is most needed.
