‘Bronx Science Principal’s Push Hits Roadblock’

Thank you for Elizabeth Green’s look behind the scholastic scenes in “Bronx Science Principal’s Push Hits Roadblock” [New York, October 11, 2007].

Since our son, a junior at Bronx Science, is so busy studying, we rarely get such an in-depth view of his school life.

What interested me most about the story was not that students feel they have too many tests — all students would concur — or that Ms. Reidy is following the Department of Education’s mandate to turn teaching into a data-driven science, Chancellor Klein enacted those initiatives last spring and made principals accountable, but rather that these students are taking action.
