ANCIC WINS ORDINA OPEN FOR FIRST ATP TOUR WIN
Mario Ancic of Croatia won his first ATP title at the Ordina Open yesterday, beating defending champion Michael Llodra 7-5, 6-4. It was the first victory in three finals for the 21-year-old Ancic, whose powerful serve befuddled his opponent.
Ancic reached the semifinals of Wimbledon last year after also making the semifinals at Den Bosch. He said he hoped to “continue the tradition” in his opening match this year at Wimbledon, which starts today. Ancic, seeded 10th, will meet German qualifier Tobias Summerer in his first match.

MEXICO BLANKS BRAZIL TO REACH SEMIS AT CONFEDERATIONS CUP
Mexico upset Brazil 1-0 yesterday in the Confederations Cup in Germany, outplaying the five-time World Cup champions with Jared Borgetti scoring the winner on a 59th minute header. Mexico joined Germany and Argentina in the semifinals of this high-profile showcase, a two-week tune-up for next year’s World Cup.
In yesterday’s other Group B game, Asian champion Japan beat European champion Greece 1-0. Greece is out of the chase to reach the semis. The other berth will be decided Wednesday when Japan plays Brazil. Mexico’s victory gave it six points in Group B. Japan and Brazil have three each, and Greece has none. In Group A on Saturday, Germany defeated Tunisia 3-0 and Argentina beat Australia 4-2. The semis are next weekend and the final will be played June 29.
Borgetti headed in a corner kick that beat flat-footed Brazil goalkeeper Dida. It was justice for Borgetti. In the 29th, Roque Junior was called for pulling him down in the area. Borgetti netted the first penalty, but the play was called back when referee Roberto Rosetti ruled that a Mexican player strayed into the area. His next penalty attempt went off the crossbar, but Rosetti also called that one back because Dida moved off the goal line before the shot. The third attempt was stopped by Dida, diving to his right.

Creamer, an 18-year-old rookie seeking her second victory in a month, faded with three bogeys on the back nine to end at 11 under.

METS MINOR LEAGUER THROWS NO-HITTER
Mets minor leaguer Gabriel Hernandez pitched a no-hitter for the South Atlantic League’s Hagerstown Suns in a 1-0 victory over the West Virginia Power on Sunday. The 19-year-old Hernandez (5-1) scratched the word “Dad” on the mound just before throwing his first pitch in the Father’s Day game that guaranteed the Class-A Suns a playoff berth. Hernandez struck out six and walked two.
