FREE AGENT LB VICTOR HOBSON LEAVES JETS FOR PATRIOTS
The New England Patriots signed free agent Victor Hobson yesterday, bolstering their aging linebacker corps. Hobson, 28, has spent all five of his seasons with the New York Jets, starting 58 of the 76 games he played. He joins a linebacking group that had Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel and Junior Seau as starters last season. All are over 30. “Victor is a good young player with considerable playing experience,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said in a statement.

LIGHTNING WIN NHL LOTTERY; WILL PICK FIRST AT JUNE DRAFT
The Tampa Bay Lightning landed the No. 1 pick in the NHL’s draft lottery Monday night. The Lightning had the best chance (48.8%) of earning the top pick after earning 71 points (31–42–9) in the regular season. The winner of the lottery can move up a maximum of four spots, so only the five teams with the fewest points have a chance to win the first pick.

GORDON LEAVING INDIANA FOR NBA
Indiana freshman Eric Gordon is entering the NBA draft. While he has not yet signed with an agent, his father, Eric Gordon Sr., said he intended to sign with one, which would officially end his college eligibility. The move was expected long before Gordon made the announcement yesterday. When he joined the Hoosiers, many people predicted the 6-foot-4 guard with the nifty moves and NBA 3-point range would go straight to the league after one college season. He’s projected as a top-10 pick in the June draft.
