AI Breakthrough Might Have Enticed Curious Aliens to Earth

Aliens could have been attracted to Earth by recent advances in artificial intelligence, the founder of a space tech company says.Peter Diamandis says that AI could explain the increase in sightings of UFOs around military bases, power plants and nuclear facilities. It mimics an uptick of reports during the Cold War when it was speculated that advances in nuclear weapons might have attracted alien life. Then, as now, officials expressed concern that glowing orbs and flickering lights in the sky were craft sent by America’s enemies. Mr. Diamandis in a new essay suggests that mankind is under observation by “non-human intelligence” due to breakthroughs in artificial superintelligence.”One hypothesis: both nuclear weapons and ASI (artificial superintelligence) represent technologies capable of fundamentally altering the trajectory of civilization, either through destruction or transcendence,” Mr. Diamandis writes. “If NHI (non-human intelligence) are observing humanity, the two moments most worth monitoring are the moments when we develop technologies that could end or transform our civilization.”Mr. Diamandis founded the XPrize, which funds competitions to solve grand challenges, and has co-founded a spaceflight corporation, biotechnology companies and a company intended to mine asteroids for minerals. He was quick to admit that correlation does not prove causation, and offered no data showing UAP sightings around AI research labs, corporations or data centers. The essay comes after an August 31 meeting by the US government’s UAP Science Advisory Council in Washington DC. The council was told the government has a response plan in place in case the existence of non-human intelligence is confirmed, council member Dr. Jennice Vilhauer said.According to Mr. Diamandis, UAP sightings surged after 1947, two years after the first atomic bomb detonated during a test in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He wrote that accounts show UAP sightings not merely around Los Alamos in the following years, but also around nuclear installations like Hanford Nuclear Site in Washington state, Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Malstrom Air Force Base in Montana – which houses intercontinental nuclear missiles. Similar sightings were observed at comparable facilities in the former Soviet Union during the Cold War, he said.Stories have circulated that ten nuclear missiles in an underground missile complex at Malstrom were rendered inert during a March 1967 sighting of a red orb above the base. The malfunction was real – but the Pentagon said in 2025 the incident was caused by a secret test of an electromagnetic pulse device.Mr. Diamandis quoted a 2023 study which found that in nations that had achieved nuclear weapons capability, sightings surged more than 1,500% on average. Additionally, a study in 2025 found that a massive, seven-year study of the night sky by a California observatory found that anomalies were 68% more likely to occur the day after a nuclear weapon had been tested.Ironically, researchers are increasingly using AI to hunt for UAP. In 2025, SUNY Albany Associate Professor of Physics Matthew Szydagis designed software that utilized artificial intelligence to comb through photos of the night sky to detect anomalies. In his essay, Mr. Diamandis quoted a study that mathematically estimated the mean year for “catastrophic” disclosure of non-human intelligence at 2040.“You do not need to be a believer or a skeptic,” Mr. Diamandis wrote. “You need to be someone who follows the data. The evidence is accumulating.”He pointed to the large amount of similarities, rather than differences, connecting UAP sightings – over 80 years, across multiple nations and by countless numbers of people from all different backgrounds.“The consistency of experiencers worldwide is itself a signal,” Mr. Diamandis wrote. “Human imagination is extraordinary and diverse. If this were pure fiction, we would expect vast variety in what people report. Instead, we see remarkable consistency across cultures, decades, and continents.”He identified similarities including descriptions of the types of craft, the appearance of purported alien beings, and neurological effects that precede or follow encounters with UAPs.“The evidence is there,” Mr. Diamandis wrote. “The people coming forward are credible. The correlations are statistically significant.”
