AI Will Free America From ‘Medical Tyranny,’ RFK Jr. Declares

AI in medicine will be the ultimate guard against pandemic-era civil liberties restrictions, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. declared at a summit for his Make America Healthy Again movement. Taking to the stage with Vice President JD Vance at the close of the MAHA summit Tuesday, Mr. Kennedy connected the unparalleled research power of AI to the expansion of personal choice. The technology, he said, would allow people to do their own research and seek out medical facts that were being blocked by the medical establishment.“We’re never going to be dominated again by public officials who tell us: trust the experts,” Mr. Kennedy said. “It really has the capacity to dominate us, to free us from medical tyranny.” His comments, coming on the same day that President Trump and Mr. Vance met with AI and tech CEOs at the White House, underscored the administration-wide push to promote AI — which the President has dubbed “super intelligence.”The summit — that included appearances from tech giants, CEOs, comic Russell Brand and boxing legend Mike Tyson — had a strong focus on AI, but Mr. Vance also raised the fight against fraud in Medicare and Medicaid. The Trump administration, he said, had uncovered $250 billion in fraud in those programs.“I really believe we’ve just started to scratch the surface here,” he said.Mr. Vance criticized the Biden administration for expanding eligibility for Obamacare subsidies without tightening eligibility. Under Biden referral fees of $25 per head were handed out, Mr. Vance added, which made the program “almost irresistible” to fraudsters.Mr. Vance said he was not blaming those who took the benefits, as members of his own family in Appalachia had.With the midterm elections looming, Mr. Vance’s attendance at the summit represented a push to court voters who followed Mr. Kennedy to the Trump team and delivered the Trump-Vance White House ticket in 2024.Mr. Vance aimed to show the full commitment of the Trump administration to Mr. Kennedy’s MAHA movement, even as it is reported that some policies, such as to label ultraprocessed food in supermarkets, have stalled.“MAHA is not going away,” Mr. Kennedy’s chief of staff, Stefanie Spear, told attendees. “This is not shiny object syndrome.” Ms. Spear said the ultraprocessed food labeling initiative would be forthcoming.
