Israeli troops Monday shot and killed seven Palestinian Arabs, including a militant who led a rocket-launching operation, Palestinian officials and witnesses said. Fourteen others were wounded in the attack on the first day of the three-day Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday, officials said.

CBS: Corrupt Arms Deals Cost Iraq $800M
Iraq’s former finance minister alleged in an television report that up to $800 million meant to equip the Iraqi army had been stolen from the government by former officials through fraudulent arms deals. The former minister, Ali Allawi, told CBS’ “60 Minutes” that $1.2 billion had been allocated from the Iraqi treasury to the defense ministry to buy new weapons.

S. Korea’s Ban Will Visit China Over North Korea
SEOUL, South Korea — Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon of South Korea will travel to Beijing on Ocober 27 to discuss the North Korea nuclear crisis with Chinese officials, South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said. Mr. Ban’s agenda for the visit, including the people he is scheduled to meet or the duration of the trip, hasn’t been completed, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Choi Sung Ah said yesterday in Seoul. North Korea’s nuclear test on October 9 will likely be among topics to be discussed, she said.
