Iran Threatens ‘Large-Scale’ Attack on Israel If IDF Targets Strategic Ridge in Lebanon

Iran is warning the United States that it will launch a large-scale attack against Israel if the Israel Defense Forces strike a strategic ridge in southern Lebanon where Iranian military personnel are located alongside Hezbollah. Iran’s message to Washington specified that the Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon is off-limits as the IDF operates against Hezbollah in the area, according to Reuters which cited three officials in the region. On Wednesday, the IDF said Hezbollah launched two explosive drones toward IDF soldiers in the area of the Ali al-Taher Ridge causing Israeli soldiers to open fire at and down one of them. In response to the attack, the IDF said it struck Hezbollah infrastructure in the area of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon. “The sites struck were used by Hezbollah terrorists to plan and direct terror attacks targeting Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers in the Security Zone. These strikes were carried out in order to eliminate an immediate threat,” the IDF said in a statement, adding that Israeli soldiers will continue to “operate in the ridge area and will not allow terrorists in the area to advance and execute attacks against IDF soldiers.”Iran has attempted to link the conflict with the United States and Israel to Lebanon, threatening repeatedly that continued Israeli attacks on Hezbollah would spark a response from Tehran. The Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the United States, which never materialized and is now expired, also stipulated that Lebanon was part of the ceasefire. Kuwait meanwhile said it was attacked with drones and missiles from Iran, with the country’s foreign ministry calling it “a direct threat to (Kuwait’s) security and stability, and the safety of its citizens and residents on its territory, and a grave breach of the rules of international law.”Iran’s army confirmed it attacked Kuwait, saying: “This morning, the army hit the satellite communication systems, equipment depots and fighter aircraft hangars of the terrorist U.S. army at the Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait with missiles and drones.”The army also said it attacked the U.S. army at the Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE with missiles and drones. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is said to be debating whether to escalate the war as American and Israelis head to the polls for national elections. As Iran and America’s conflicts have turned hotter over the past week, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has decided to extend the deployment of 50,000 troops in the Middle East through 2027, according to the Wall Street Journal. The deployment of warship crews, air defense units, and paratroopers have also been extended, according to the report. United States Central Command said on Wednesday that the navy “continues to strictly enforce the U.S. blockade against Iran. As of Sept. 2, U.S. forces have redirected 86 commercial vessels, disabled 3 and boarded 2 to ensure compliance.”President Trump meanwhile suggested that the Strait of Hormuz should be renamed, saying: “Now that we have it under USA control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT???. Like America itself, it would be ‘hotter’ than ever before!”Trump also said the United States “took out all of the new equipment that they tried to build along the Strait of Hormuz,” in attacks earlier this week.“It was a very heavy attack last night (Tuesday). And we’re prepared to do another one anytime we want,” he added.
