Mamdani Marks October 7 by Criticizing Israel for ‘Genocide’

On the third anniversary of the worst terror attack in Israeli history, Mayor Zohran Mamdani released a statement criticizing Israel for “genocide” and said he would end the day by meeting with Palestinians.“This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers,” the mayor said in a statement Wednesday, at first referencing the more than 1,100 murders Hamas committed that day and the 251 hostages taken.“The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza,” his statement went on. “Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed.” The mayor repeated false allegations that Israel has attacked non-military targets such as ambulances, residential buildings, and journalists. Returning briefly to his constituents’ “unbearable grief,” the mayor added, “our tax dollars fund these war crimes,” and “occupation and apartheid continue.”The mayor’s official schedule for the day shows him attending an unspecified vigil with Jewish New Yorkers at 7 pm.The event will likely be organized by Jewish Voices for Peace or Jews for Racial & Economic Justice, anti-Zionist groups that have aligned themselves with leftist calls to dismantle Israel, president of United Jewish Teachers Moshe Spern speculated on X.Mr. Spern took note of the single sentence the mayor dedicated to Jewish New Yorkers before “calling Israel genocidal” and repeatedly referencing war crimes.“The largest Jewish community outside Israel lives in your city.” Mr. Spern wrote. “You’re not grieving with us, you’re inciting violence against us.”
