Miraculous Survival: Flight Attendant Found Alive, Strapped to Jump Seat on Tarmac After Deadly LaGuardia Crash

A flight attendant miraculously survived a catastrophic collision at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Sunday night after being violently ejected from an Air Canada plane and found alive on the tarmac, still securely strapped into her jump seat.The horrifying crash — caught on video — occurred around 11:40 p.m., when Air Canada Flight 8646, operated by Jazz Aviation, collided with a Port Authority aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle on Runway 4. While the flight attendant — who was seated near the cockpit — is expected to survive, the tragedy claimed the lives of both the pilot and co-pilot.According to reports, the CRJ-900 jet, carrying 72 passengers and four crew members from Montreal, T-boned the fire truck at roughly 24 mph. The emergency vehicle was responding to reports of an unknown odor in the cabin of a United Airlines flight when the two vehicles crossed paths.Following the devastating impact, emergency crews found the flight attendant on the runway, still strapped into her seat after being thrown from the wreckage.The crash resulted in dozens of injuries. “The pilot and co-pilot of the Jazz Aviation flight were pronounced deceased,” a Port Authority spokesman said in a statement. “Additionally, 41 people were transported to the hospital, 39 people on the aircraft and two ARFF officers.”Of those hospitalized, 32 have been released, while nine remain in care, some in critical condition. The two Port Authority officers who were sent flying from their seats inside the fire truck are reportedly in stable condition.Preliminary reports indicate that both the plane and the fire truck had been cleared to be on the active runway, prompting an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board into potential miscommunications by air traffic control.Chilling ATC audio captured the moments leading up to the disaster. “Stop, stop, stop, stop,” the controller frantically demanded. “Truck 1, stop, stop, stop. Stop, Truck 1. Stop.”Seconds later, the controller said, “Jazz 646, I see you collided with the vehicle. Just hold position. I know you can’t move. Vehicles are responding to you now.”Witnessing the crash, pilots on an incoming Frontier flight said, “We got stuff in progress for that, man, that wasn’t good to watch.”“Yeah, I tried to reach out to ‘em … And we were dealing with an emergency, and I messed up,” the controller said.“No, you did the best you could,” the Frontier crews assured.The airport was immediately locked down following the incident, and all flights in and out of the airport were halted for several hours into Monday afternoon. “Emergency response protocols were immediately activated,” the airport said, while confirming that it will remain “closed to facilitate the response and allow for a thorough investigation.”
