‘Real Crossfire’

A small addition to Mark Steyn’s excellent analysis of how the difference between movie violence and real violence can effect public policy [Oped, “Real Crossfire,” October 29, 2007].

He notes that the younger Dickey’s father wrote a book and then the screenplay for the movie.

He also had a small, but important part in the movie. He played the sheriff who is investigating reports of a missing hillbilly—the one killed by Burt Reynolds — when the three survivors emerge from the wilderness.

Even though they are prime suspects the sheriff does not make them part of his investigation and lets them go back to their real lives. He senses the kind of trouble they had gotten into. It was a nice performance.
