Woods’s Streak Ends; Yang Wins HSBC Champions
Tiger Woods’s streak is over.
Woods failed to win a 72-hole tourna ment for the first time since July 9, fin ishing two shots behind South Korea’s Yang Yong-eun in the HSBC Champi ons yesterday.
Yang, a regular on the Japanese tour who has played infrequently outside Asia, closed with a 3-under 69 yester day for a 14-under 274 and a two stroke victory over Woods at the HSBC Cham pions tournament. Yang won $833,000.
The loss ended his streak of stroke play victories, dating to his runner-up finish to Trevor Immelman on July 9 in the Western Open.

Rams’ Pro Bowl LT Pace Out for Season
The St. Louis Rams lost Pro Bowl left tackle Orlando Pace for the season af ter he tore his left triceps yesterday against Seattle.
Pace left in the second quarter of the Rams’ 24–22 loss to the Seahawks, drop ping them two games back in the NFC West. The Rams announced the injury at halftime as a torn biceps muscle, but afterward Pace and coach Scott Line han said he tore his triceps. Pace’s arm was wrapped and immobilized and he said he’ll have an MRI today. Linehan ruled Pace out for the year.
Redskins RB Portis Leaves Game With Broken Hand
The Washington Redskins’ running back, Clinton Portis, broke his right hand in the first half of yesterday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Portis, who rushed for 25 yards on six carries, left late in the first quarter of Philadelphia’s 27–3 victory over Washington and did not return. Portis entered with 498 yards rushing and seven touchdowns in seven games.
“I haven’t talked to him yet, but it’s something that might have to have some screws,” the Redskins’ coach, Joe Gibbs, said.
Steelers’ Polamalu Leaves Games With Concussion
A Pittsburgh Steerlers safety, Troy Polamalu, received a concussion during the first quarter yesterday against New Orleans and did not return to the game.
Polamalu, an All-Pro safety last season, was hurt during a Saints touchdown drive that cut Pittsburgh’s lead to 14–7.
