Trump’s Niece Lobs ‘Anchor Baby’ Zinger Against Her Own Family Over Birthright Citizenship

President Trump’s estranged niece is using his appearance in front of the Supreme Court to claim their own family could have citizenship issues.Mr. Trump was at the Supreme Court to hear arguments over the constitutionality of his executive order to exclude some babies from birthright citizenship.“My grandfather was an anchor baby. It turns out the best case against birthright citizenship is Donald,” Ms. Trump said in an X post on Wednesday.The term “anchor baby” is used to describe a child born in America to non‑citizen parents. The term implies the parents are using the child’s birth to gain legal status due to the child gaining birthright citizenship.Mr. Trump signed an executive order on the first day he was back in the White House that would prohibit citizenship for babies of parents who are not American citizens or were in the country illegally. A federal judge put the order on hold and it has never been implemented.The Supreme Court justices heard the case on Wednesday morning. The arguments took more than two hours but Mr. Trump left the courtroom early.“It turns out that sitting in the Supreme Court with his arms folded and a pout on his face may not have been the genius move Donald thought it was,” Ms. Trump said in a second X post.Fred Trump, the president’s late father, was born in New York City. His parents, Friedrich and Elizabeth Trump, were German immigrants but his father became an American citizen before the birth, the Gotham Center for New York City reported in 2018. That would mean any child of his was automatically an American citizen.Ms. Trump has a long history of attacks against her uncle. She has written several books about the Trump family that have raised criticisms about the president. After her 2020 book claimed he wasn’t fit to be president, Mr. Trump attacked her in a Twitter post saying she “knows little about me” and claimed she said “untruthful things about my wonderful parents.”Ms. Trump also once alleged that Mr. Trump and his siblings cheated her out of a $10 million inheritance. A judge dismissed a 2022 lawsuit she fined against them in New York. The court ruled that a settlement Ms. Trump signed 20 years earlier blocked her from suing over the estate.Ms. Trump claimed in her blog late last month that she had been permanently banned from TikTok. She claimed to not know why it happened but said she received a strike on her account for a content violation after criticizing FCC shareman Brendan Carr for threatening to pull the licenses of TV networks over their negative reporting on the Iran war that Mr. Trump launched in late February.The White House had a sharp reply to Ms. Trump’s latest attack.“Mary Trump is a stone-old loser who doesn’t have a clue about anything,” the White House communications director, Steven Cheung, stated in an emailed message to the Sun.
