The next, 21st season of MTV’s “Real World” franchise will be set in Brooklyn, the company announced Tuesday. No neighborhood has been chosen yet.
The first season of the series, set in New York, had its premiere in 1992 and aimed to document the experiences of ambitious young people confronting adulthood. The show discarded that middlebrow aspiration many seasons ago, choosing to focus instead on interpersonal melodrama and the sexual exploits of its subjects, but MTV believes the current season, set in Hollywood, represents a return to the original mission, and the network hopes that the Brooklyn season will continue the trend.
The 13 hour-long episodes of “Real World: Brooklyn” will air in 2009.
