SPAIN SCENE A two-part exhibit explores the work of artists from Castilla-Leon in central Spain. The section “Posthumous Choreographies” at White Box Gallery incorporates performance art and dance, while “Other Optical Labyrinths,” at the affiliated Annex gallery, focuses on digital and electronic art. Reception: Tonight, 6-8 p.m. Exhibit: Today through Saturday, July 2, Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., White Box Gallery, 525 W. 26th St., between Tenth and Eleventh avenues, 212-714-2347, White Box @ the Annex, 601 W. 26th St. at Eleventh Avenue, 14th floor, 646-638-3785, free.
PICTURING PLACE Contemporary artists explore the relationship between public and private spaces in the exhibit “Out of Place.” Fittingly, it is on display at a public gallery inside a private corporate building, and was organized by the nonprofit Brooklyn gallery Momenta Art. Works on display include Jennifer Bolande’s scale model of Lever House, Dan Graham and Robin Hirst’s text piece “Corporate Arcadias,” and Craig Kalpakjian’s large-scale prints of architectural interiors, which appear to be photographs of corporate buildings but are actually detailed computer models. Through Friday, June 17, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m., UBS Art Gallery, 1285 Sixth Ave., between 51st and 52nd streets, 212-713-2885, free.
SENSE AND SENSIBILITY A group show of sound works explores the phenomenon of synesthesia, in which experiences in one sense prompt other senses to react – for example, when a smell produces visualizations of a color. “What Sound Does a Color Make?” asks how synesthesia is connected to contemporary audiovisual art, which forces viewers to use more than one sense in interpretation. Through Saturday, July 16, Tuesday-Saturday, noon-6 p.m., Eyebeam, 540 W. 21st St., between Tenth and Eleventh avenues, 212-937-6581, free.
