ISLAND DREAMS


The Museum of the Moving Image pays tribute to filmmaker Morris Engel, who died in March, with several screenings of his 1953 independent film “The Little Fugitive.” Shot on location in Brooklyn, the film is about a 7-year-old boy who runs away to spend the day at Coney Island. Through Friday, 1:30 p.m., Saturday, noon, Museum of the Moving Image, 35th Avenue at 36th Street, Astoria, Queens, 718-784-0077, $10 general, $7.50 seniors and students, free for members.


ON THE RUN


The Museum of Modern Art’s mammoth film series “112 Years of Cinema” screens “A Perfect World” (1993), Clint Eastwood’s directorial follow-up to “Unforgiven.” Kevin Costner stars as an escaped convict who kidnaps a child. Mr. Eastwood plays the Texas Ranger who chases them, accompanied by a criminal psychologist played by Laura Dern. Thursday, 5 p.m., Museum of Modern Art, 11 W. 53rd St. at Fifth Avenue, 212-708-9480, $10 general, $8 seniors, $6 students, free for children under 16. Note: Tickets do not include admission to the museum but the cost may be applied to a museum ticket within 30 days. Paying the full museum admission allows admission to same-day screenings.


CHIMPSPLOITATION


Chimpanzees and monkeys are the lead actors in the “Simian Shorts Program,” an evening of short films. Titles include “Chimp the Fireman,” “Chimp on the Farm,” “Zippy’s Birthday Party,”and the 1931 short “Monkey Business.” The goofy collection also includes a reel of boxing chimps. Thursday, 8 p.m., Anthology Film Archives, 32 Second Ave. at 2nd Street, 212-505-5181, $8 general, $5 members and students.
