CROSSING THE BORDER Israeli filmmaker Eran Riklis’s new movie, “The Syrian Bride,” tells the story of a woman who must cross the Israeli-Syrian border to meet her anxious groom. Today through Thursday, 7 and 9 p.m., Makor, Steinhardt Building, 35 W. 67th St., between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West, 212-415-5500, $9.


RUSSIAN QUIXOTE The Russian film “Don Quixote/Don Kihhot” (1957) sets Cervantes’s classic tale in a dusty Spanish wasteland. Nikolai Cherkasov stars as the wayward knight and Grigori Kozintsev directs. It is filmed as part of the ongoing series Spanish Cinema Now, co-presented by Instituto Cervantes. Thursday, 4:15 and 8:45 p.m., Friday, 4:15 and 9:15 p.m., Lincoln Center, Walter Reade Theater, 65th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, 212-496-3809, $10 general, $7 students, $6 members, $5 children.


CINEMATIC COUPLES Two Boots Pioneer Theater offers a variety of eclectic double bills over the holidays. Up first is “Akira Kurosawa: Malevolence and Swordfighting,” which consists of screenings of “Rashomon” and “The Seven Samurai” (Thursday, December 22, and Wednesday, December 28, 6:30 p.m.). Other highlights: “Orson Welles: Mystery and Falsehood,” which pairs “Confidential Report” and “F for Fake” (Friday, December 30, 7 p.m.), and “End of the World/End of the Year,” which pairs the apocalyptic “Dr. Strangelove” with the lighthearted “Rock Around the Clock” (Saturday, December 31, 7:30 p.m.). TOY TIME In the operetta fantasy “Babes in Toyland” (1934), two toymakers rescue pretty Little Bo-Peep. Saturdays, December 24 and December 31, 2 p.m., Museum of the Moving Image, 35th Avenue at 36th Street, Astoria, Queens, 718-784-0077, $10 general, $7.50 seniors and students, free for members.
