Consumer Fraud Attorney Says Letitia James Fired Her for Speaking Out Against ‘Transitioning’ Children

A consumer fraud lawyer says she was fired by Attorney General Letitia James after she spoke out against “transitioning” children. In a post on X, Glenna Goldis, who says she is part of the “LGBTQ community” that the attorney general “purports to champion,” wrote, “Today I was fired by NY Attorney General Letitia James for speaking out against pediatric gender medicine (PGM).”“[Ms.] James supports “transitioning” kids with puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery. She sued the federal government to protect the PGM industry from investigations and funding cuts. And she argued (dubiously) that doctors who decline to offer PGM are liable for “discrimination,” Ms. Goldis added. Ms. James’s office is involved in several federal lawsuits against the Trump Administration over its efforts to restrict gender transition procedures for minors. In December, she led a coalition of 18 other states in a lawsuit against the Department of Health and Human Services over a “declaration” that “gender-affirming care” is “unsafe and ineffective.” The declaration said that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid propose a new rule that would prevent health care providers who perform “sex-rejecting procedures” on children from receiving Medicaid funding. Ms. Goldis said that she worked as an attorney with the Consumer Frauds Bureau, and that her work did not have any connection to pediatric gender medicine. She added that she has been “raising the alarm publicly and within NYAG that PGM providers may be engaged in a dangerous consumer fraud,” but that Ms. James’ office “treated me like a pest.”The ethics chief for the attorney general’s office took issue with a post on Ms. Goldis’ personal blog, in which she stated that it is not discriminatory to ban PGM — an opinion that ran contrary to Ms. James’ view. According to the official, it was unethical for her to “take public legal positions that conflict with” Ms. James’ views.However, Ms. Goldis wrote, “The Rule of Professional Conduct that he cited said no such thing. It seemed he was trying to protect James by cowing me into silence.”“I’m a lesbian, i.e., a ‘member of the LGBTQ community’ that James purports to champion,” she said. “I tried to explain to NYAG officials that PGM, by its nature, targets children who defy sexed norms — whom studies show are more likely to be gay when they grow up. PGM can reportedly leave them with sexual dysfunction, chronic genital pain, and incontinence, among all sorts of other side effects. No one in authority at NYAG showed interest in the concern that PGM may be homophobic.”Ms. Goldis said that Ms. James should “research ‘gender’ drugs and learn what they do” if she “actually cared about ‘LGBTQ’ youth.”She also stated that her social circle, which is made up of “progressive lawyers,” is “leery of PGM” like “most Americans,” but is “afraid” to speak out.“James’s behavior toward me illustrates why the public discussion of PGM is often one-sided in places like NYC — and so strikingly different from what you hear behind closed doors,” Ms. Goldis said. “James was wrong to treat me like a pest. I was trying to warn her about red flags for fraud that I saw around PGM — that’s what she hired me to do.”The attorney general’s office did not respond to The New York Sun’s request for comment by the time of publication.
