Democrats Demand Answers About Tulsi Gabbard Being Present at FBI Search of Georgia Elections Office

After she was spotted at the scene of an FBI search of Fulton County, Georgia’s elections office on Wednesday, Democrats are demanding answers from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. A top Democrat on Thursday raised questions about what such a search could mean for the coming midterm elections. On Wednesday, FBI agents, after receiving a warrant, searched the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center, which for years has housed ballots from the 2020 election. Ms. Gabbard was seen at the site of the search, which caused outrage among Democrats.“We all know the Trump administration’s strategy is, throw as much s–t on the wall and see what sticks,” the top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, Senator Mark Warner, said in a video on Thursday. He says the search of the elections office should “scare the hell out of all of us.”“What does this mean for the fall?” he asked, referring to the midterms. “Tulsi Gabbard has nothing to do with election security. Tulsi Gabbard has even been in charge of dismantling what was called the Foreign Malign Influence Center, [which made] sure foreign countries don’t interfere in our elections.”Speaking to reporters at the Capitol, Mr. Warner reiterated his outrage at not only the search of the facility — which resulted in 2020 ballots being taken by the FBI — but also that Ms. Gabbard would be present for the search. “What the heck is she doing [with] the FBI serving a domestic warrant?” he asked. “This is a person who’s got no business interfering in elections, and, put frankly, to follow up on President Trump’s obsession with the fact that he lost in 2020.”“To see her skulking around in a baseball cap … you never thought you could make this stuff up,” Mr. Warner added. The Virginia senator not only raised concerns about Ms. Gabbard, but about current leadership at the FBI as well, referring to director Kash Patel. In the last year, numerous senior agents have claimed that they were fired because of Mr. Patel’s campaign of political purges for those agents deemed disloyal to President Trump. “I don’t know what happened in Atlanta, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve got a veteran field office director who might say, ‘What in the heck’s going on here?’” Mr. Warner said. “But I’m speculating here.”Ms. Gabbard’s attendance for the execution of the warrant was not announced ahead of time, and was only disclosed because of a photo captured by Reuters photographer Elijah Nouvelage. In the picture, the director of national intelligence is seen wearing all black, including a black baseball cap, while she is speaking on the phone while she is standing inside of a truck with the ballots that had been removed from the facility. Ms. Gabbard’s office did not immediately respond to a list of questions about the incident. On Thursday afternoon, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Congressman Jim Himes, penned a joint letter with Mr. Warner addressed to Ms. Gabbard, asking questions about the execution of the search warrant and her presence at the facility. “It is … deeply concerning that you participated in this domestic law enforcement action. The Intelligence Community should be focused on foreign threats and, as you yourself have testified, when those intelligence authorities are turned inwards the results can be devastating for Americans’ privacy and civil liberties,” the two lawmakers wrote. They are asking her to testify before both the House and Senate Intelligence Committees.
